Berlin says trade barriers must be avoided after latest US tariff hike

BERLIN, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Further trade barriers must be avoided, a German economy ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday, after Washington announced higher import tariffs on hundreds of steel and aluminium products.
"It is clear that further trade restrictions must be avoided as a matter of urgency. That is our clear position on this," the spokesperson told a regular press conference in Berlin, adding that the German government had not received details on the new measures.
