Aug 15 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said he spoke with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and planned to meet with him "in the future," writing in a social media post just hours ahead of his planned meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
"We discussed many topics, including President Putin’s visit to Alaska," Trump said in the post as he traveled aboard Air Force One to the meeting site in Anchorage. Lukashenko is a close ally of Putin.
Trump said the purpose of the call was to thank Lukashenko for releasing of 16 prisoners and urge the release of 1,300 more.
