Parametric travel startup Koala Insurance acquired by CarTrawler

Aug 15 - (The Insurer) - Insurtech Koala Insurance has been acquired by travel mobility firm CarTrawler, the companies announced on Thursday.
Paris-based Koala Insurance was founded in 2018 and raised 3.6 million euros ($4.2 million) in funding rounds in 2020 and 2023, both led by Insurtech Gateway.
It specialises in embedded travel protection, including parametric flight disruption and missed connection covers, cancel-for-any-reason and comprehensive travel insurance. Its products have been distributed by more than 70 travel partners across 17 countries, Koala said on LinkedIn.
Now, Koala said, CarTrawler's partners will have access to the firm's travel protection products.
Dublin-based CarTrawler provides technology to help travel brands offer car rental, airport transfer and ride-hailing services to their customers. In a LinkedIn post, the firm said the acquisition would enable it to expand into a new product area.
