- (The Insurer) - Admiral’s share price jumped more than 7% on Thursday morning after the insurer reported a 69% increase in pre-tax profit from continuing operations to 521 million pounds ($707 million) for the first half of 2025, beating analyst expectations.

The increase in pre-tax profit from continuing operations, which excludes the planned sale of its U.S. motor operations, was driven by a strong performance in UK insurance, particularly its UK motor portfolio, as the 2024 underwriting year earns through.

On a consolidated basis, group pre-tax profit rose 67% to 516.1 million pounds.

UK motor insurance profit increased by 56% to 559 million pounds, with higher insurance revenue and an improved insurance service margin.

The London-listed insurer reported a pre-tax profit of 25.2 million pounds in UK household insurance, up from 11.3 million pounds in the same period last year, with growth in both customers and turnover.

Admiral’s European insurance business posted a loss of 0.6 million pounds, an improvement on the loss of 1.3 million pounds reported in the first six months of 2024.

Group turnover was flat year on year, as 29% growth in household insurance was offset by a 6% reduction in UK motor turnover as average premiums reduced.

Policyholder numbers increased by 10% to 11.4 million. Admiral noted that it had seen “good growth” in UK insurance, with increases of 5% and 19% in motor and household, respectively. In contrast, the insurer reported a 3% reduction in Europe due to portfolio actions in Italy.

Earnings per share for continuing operations totalled 132.5 pence, up from 76.9 pence in H1 2024.

Admiral also flagged its previously announced agreement to sell its U.S. motor insurance business, including Elephant Insurance Company and Elephant Insurance Services, to global private investment firm JC Flowers.

Admiral said the deal, announced in April, is expected to close in fourth quarter of 2025.

Shares in Admiral were trading at 3.617,21 pence per share shortly before 9:00 a.m. BST, up 7.4% from Wednesday’s close.
