BRUSSELS, July 12 (Reuters) - The European Union "remains firm, united and ready to protect (its) interests," European Council President Antonio Costa said on Saturday, following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of 30% tariffs on EU goods starting August 1.
"Tariffs are taxes. They fuel inflation, create uncertainty and hinder economic growth. We will continue to build strong trade partnerships worldwide," said Costa, who chairs European summits as the head of the council of national leaders.
