MEXICO CITY, July 11 (Reuters) - Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday condemned recent immigration raids in the United States, saying at least 355 Mexican nationals had been detained in these operations since January.
Since the President Donald Trump took office on Jan. 20, a total of 73,533 people had been returned to Mexico, mostly by air, including 67,008 Mexican nationals. The rest were citizens of other countries, Sheinbaum said in her daily press conference.
On Thursday, U.S. federal agents carried out immigration enforcement raids on state-licensed marijuana nurseries in an agricultural region of coastal Southern California.
The operation sparked protests by migrant-rights activists on rural roads, prompting agents to deploy tear gas and other crowd-control measures.
