- (The insurer) - Expansive Lloyd’s broker Lilley Plummer Risks has hired London market veteran and former Gallagher producer Alex Burton Brown to lead its growing financial lines division.

The broker confirmed to The Insurer that Burton Brown has joined as head of financial institutions.

He brings around a decade's experience, the majority of which was spent as a financial lines market specialist focusing on professional indemnity, directors and officers and global solutions.

Burton Brown spent more seven years at AssuredPartners as group commercial director before joining Gallagher in early 2023 as executive director in the financial institutions practice.

Prior to AssuredPartners Burton Brown was head of the hedge fund practice at JLT where he worked with many of the major hedge funds and asset managers in the UK.

LPR managing director Dan Plummer confirmed the hire in a statement to The Insurer, in which he said Burton Brown brings a “deep understanding” of the needs of asset managers and regulated businesses having built a reputation as a thought leader in the competitive FI market.

“The integration of Alex into our team is a significant step forward for LPR and is indicative of the high-quality talent we continue to attract as we build a powerhouse of industry experts. We have long seen the FI segment as complimentary to our existing offering and Alex’s expertise and client-first mentality will be tremendous asset to our team as we further strengthen our market position,” he said.

Burton Brown’s appointment adds to a number of recent hires since Clear Group acquired Lilley Plummer in a landmark deal which handed the Goldman Sachs-backed UK broker consolidator a London market/Lloyd’s platform.

The deal, first announced in October last year, was Clear’s largest transaction to date and saw LPR’s initial venture capitalist investor BP Marsh handed almost 22 million pounds for its minority stake in the firm.

The arrival of Burton Brown also forms part of Lilley Plummer’s continued build-out into a multiline specialty intermediary.

Lilley Plummer, formed in 2019 by former Howden and Matrix marine brokers Stuart Lilley and Dan Plummer, was initially focused on marine, energy and terrorism but has grown into a multiclass international broking house through strategic hires.

In 2024, the business produced revenue of more than 12 million pounds and Ebitda of circa 7 million pounds.
