IQUW appoints Furlong to oversee technical underwriting

June 13 - (The Insurer) - IQUW has promoted Phil Furlong to the newly created role of head of technical underwriting and oversight, the specialty (re)insurer said on Friday.
In his new role, Furlong will be responsible for underwriting governance and technical standards across the business, as well as leading IQUW's claims function.
He will report to IQUW group CEO Peter Bilsby.
Furlong joined IQUW in early 2021 following seven years at Hiscox, initially serving as head of marine, energy and aviation. He became deputy active underwriter in September 2023.
Mark McDonach has been appointed as Furlong’s successor as head of marine, energy and aviation, reporting to active underwriter Steven Tebbutt.
McDonach joined IQUW in 2022 as lead underwriter under Furlong. IQUW said the appointment reflects its focus on developing internal talent and maintaining its position as a lead market in the three sectors.
