FAA confirms flight cuts at Newark to reduce delays

ReutersJun 6, 2025 9:12 PM

- The Federal Aviation Administration said on Friday it is finalizing temporary cuts to flights at New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport after meetings following weeks of equipment outages, runway construction and air traffic control staffing issues.

The order limits arrivals and departures to 28 each per hour during airport construction on weekends from September 1 through December 31. During the rest of the time, arrivals and departures cannot exceed 34 each per hour through October 25. The flight cuts that took effect on an interim basis on May 20 have led to dramatic improvements in flight performance at the airport, located just outside New York City.
