- (The Insurer) - Lloyd's CEO Patrick Tiernan has led tributes to Eamonn Egan, the Corporation's country manager and general representative for Ireland, who died on Monday.

Egan had worked for Lloyd's since 2008, having previously served as regional development manager at Ace European Group (now Chubb).

"Eamonn was a huge character in Lloyd's and so proud of Ireland's place as the largest EU insurance market in our market," Tiernan said in a LinkedIn post.

"I was personally very fond of him, and loved spending time with him in Dublin, where there was no door he couldn't open with his charm and determination. And nothing he wouldn't do for his friends and his colleagues. We will miss him deeply and treasure his memory."

Several senior industry executives responded to Tiernan's post with their own tributes, including former Lloyd's CEO John Neal, who said it was "devastating news."

"I had known Eamonn for over 25 years and in the early 2000s, together with Stephen O’Connor, we set up our own MGU, Strand, in Dublin and with Eamonn at the helm.

"He was a brilliant ambassador, as he was for Lloyd’s, and great fun to boot," Neal said.

Axa XL UK & Lloyd's CEO Sean McGovern, who is also a member of Lloyd's council, also paid tribute.

"I had the pleasure of working with Eamonn over many years and enjoyed being with him in Dublin where he was a passionate advocate for Lloyd’s. He will be missed by so many and my thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time. RIP Eamonn," McGovern posted.
