THE HAGUE, May 23 (Reuters) - Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof on Friday said he expected a calm and robust response from the European Union to the announcement of possible new U.S. trade tariffs.
Schoof said the response to U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement was up to the European Commission, which he said would likely see the move as part of ongoing negotiations.
Trump threatened earlier on Friday to intensify his trade war, recommending a 50% tariff on European Union goods starting June 1.
