Kremlin says Romanian election was 'strange, to say the least', TASS reports

- The Kremlin, asked on Monday about the Romanian election, in which pro-European centrist Nicusor Dan defeated a hard-right, nationalist rival, said that the vote's conduct had been "strange, to say the least", state news agency TASS reported.

The election was a rerun of an aborted 2024 vote, during which previous front-runner, pro-Russian Calin Georgescu, was disqualified over what Romanian authorities said was an undeclared Russian influence campaign on his behalf.

Commenting on Telegram messenger app founder Pavel Durov's allegation on Sunday that French intelligence services had pressured him to suppress voices supportive of hard-right runner up George Simion, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that it was not news that European states such as France, Britain and Germany interfered in the affairs of other countries.
