At Russia-Ukraine talks, Turkey says it's critical to achieve ceasefire

ISTANBUL, May 16 (Reuters) - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Thursday that it was critical to achieve a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire as soon as possible as the two sides met for their first direct peace talks in more than three years of war.
Speaking at the start of their meeting in Istanbul, Fidan said it was important that the talks form the basis for a meeting between leaders of the two countries and he was happy to see the will of both sides to open a new window of opportunity for peace.
