BRUSSELS, April 26 (Reuters) - Kyiv can count on the European Union's support to reach a just and lasting peace at the negotiating table, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen pledged on Saturday after meeting Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Rome.
"Europe will always stand by Ukraine in the pursuit of peace," von der Leyen said in a statement posted on X after talks with Zelenskiy on the sidelines of Pope Francis' funeral.
The statement came after Zelenskiy met U.S. President Donald Trump for the first time since an angry encounter in the Oval Office in Washington in February.
