April 14 - (The Insurer) - Africa Specialty Risks (ASR) has hired long-serving Canopius executive Trevor Oates as head of reinsurance.
In a statement on Monday ASR said that it has appointed Oates to lead its ceded reinsurance purchasing across the group in Bermuda and Mauritius, and via Lloyd’s syndicate 2454.
Oates will also work closely with ASR’s capacity partners who support its operations via Baobab, the first ever Africa-focused consortium at Lloyd’s, which ASR launched in January this year. He reports to Mikir Shah, CEO of ASR.
Before joining ASR this month, Oates worked at Canopius for over 25 years in a range of underwriting roles, including as a treaty underwriter specialising in Africa, the Middle East and emerging markets.
Earlier in his career, Oates worked at Aon and the Mercantile and General Reinsurance Company.
