Three Americans convicted over failed Congo coup transferred to US custody, State Dept says
WASHINGTON, April 8 (Reuters) - Three U.S. citizens convicted over a failed coup in Democratic Republic of Congo have been transferred into U.S. custody after Kinshasa commuted their death sentences last week, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said on Tuesday.
Bruce, speaking at a regular press briefing, said Washington condemns the armed attacks on May 19 last year and supports DRC in holding those responsible accountable.
"At the same time, we seek consistent, compassionate, humane treatment and a fair legal process on behalf of those U.S. citizens," Bruce added.
