- (The Insurer) - San Francisco-based insurtech Coalition has appointed head of research Tiago Henriques as its inaugural chief underwriting officer.

Henriques joined Coalition in 2019 as general manager of customer security and has held various roles since.

"This isn’t your conventional CUO role because Coalition isn’t a conventional insurer. Our version of underwriting is—and must be—rooted in data, engineering, and technology," said CEO and co-founder Joshua Motta in an email to the company. "It’s not just about writing policies; it’s about engineering a system that can continuously learn, adapt, and act faster and more accurately than anything that came before."

Motta highlighted Henriques' background in security research, machine learning and AI-driven risk modelling.

He added: "This move is a deliberate signal: we’re building the cyber insurer of the future. And sometimes, building the future means doing things differently."

In March, Coalition appointed Maha Virudhagiri as its first chief technology officer.
