March 31 - (The Insurer) - Lloyd’s (re)insurer MS Amlin has appointed Matt Botfield as head of Australia and New Zealand, the company said on Monday.
Based in MS Amlin’s new branch office in Sydney, Botfield reports to Will Ho, CEO of MS Amlin Asia-Pacific.
Botfield has joined MS Amlin from Aon Reinsurance China, where he was chief operating officer for Greater China and CEO of Alternate Insurance Authority Hong Kong. Before that, he was at Aon Benfield for 14 years, including a stint as head of property for Australia and New Zealand.
Ho said MS Amlin sees “significant untapped potential” in Australasia to underwrite domestic risks that would not typically be underwritten via the Lloyd’s market.
In Asia Pacific, MS Amlin offers casualty, property and specialty reinsurance. It also has a Singapore-based ILS sidecar, Phoenix Re, which increased its collateralised capacity in January to more than $90 million.
