MOSCOW, March 25 (Reuters) - Russia and the United States did not adopt a joint statement after 12 hours of talks in Saudi Arabia on Monday due to Ukraine's position, the Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday, citing a senior Russian senator.
U.S. and Russian officials wrapped up day-long talks on Monday focused on a narrow proposal for a ceasefire at sea between Kyiv and Moscow, part of a diplomatic effort that Washington hopes will help pave the way for broader peace negotiations.
Interfax cited Vladimir Chizhov, a senior Russian senator, as telling state TV channel Rossiya-24:
"The fact that they sat for 12 hours and apparently agreed on a joint statement, which was not adopted though because of Ukraine's position, is very typical and symptomatic."
