WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday that under President Donald Trump's plans for reciprocal tariffs, other countries' tariffs on U.S. goods could come down or go away if they engage with the Trump administration in trade negotiations.
"So if you have a big tax on U.S. imported cars then, and we have no tax on your cars or a small one, if you come down to our level, then there is no tariff increase," Bessent told CNBC television. "So it's going to be totally dependent on the behavior, the attitude of our trading partners to engage with this administration."
