BERLIN, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Germany's chancellor-in-waiting Friedrich Merz is due to meet French President Emmanuel Macron for dinner on Wednesday evening, the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper reported.
Merz is expected to attempt to form a coalition with the third-placed Social Democrats after his conservatives won Sunday's parliamentary election. As chancellor he would have a key role in shaping the European Union's most populous country and its foreign relations.
Macron, who on Tuesday met U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, briefed EU leaders on the outcome of the talks earlier on Wednesday.
