US intends to veto any amendment to its UN Security Council resolution on Ukraine, says official

WASHINGTON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - The United States intends to use its veto at the UN Security Council if any amendments are made to a resolution it put forward to mark the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a State Department official said on Monday.

The official, who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity, said the Trump administration was focused on getting the parties to the war in Ukraine to the table, amid criticism over the U.S. resolution omitting any reference to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"We're going to veto a Russian amendment if it comes to us in the Security Council. We will veto the Europeans'... amendments if they come to us in the Security Council," the official said.
