WASHINGTON, Feb 19 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will skip a meeting of finance ministers and central bankers from the Group of 20 major economies in Capetown, South Africa next week, a source familiar with the plans said.
It was not immediately clear why Bessent decided to cancel his expected participation in the high-level gathering.
Earlier this month U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio skipped a similar gathering of foreign ministers in South Africa, current president of the G20, days after President Donald Trump threatened to cut off funding to the African country.
