- (The Insurer) - Africa Specialty Risks (ASR) has hired Sylvain Coutu from Axa Climate as its new head of innovation and sustainability.

Coutu will lead ASR's parametric offering and has been tasked with broadening its suite of sustainable parametric products, including through new product development.

He was previously head of agriculture insurance at parametric specialist Axa Climate, after working as a senior agricultural underwriter and then head of innovation and special lines at Swiss Re.

ASR has also confirmed the addition of former Generali Global Corporate & Commercial underwriter Fanny Dunner to its parametric team, which Parametric Insurer first reported last month.

The company said its parametric portfolio continues to attract significant interest throughout Africa and noted that the company was able to support small business owners in the agriculture sector in relation to Cyclone Chido's impact in Mozambique.

ASR first launched a parametric division in May 2021, led by head of parametric underwriting Raveem Ismail and product manager Ian Bishop. Ismail and Bishop left ASR to launch start-up underwriting firm Trigger Parametric last October.
