- (The Insurer) - Travel resale platform Transfer Travel has appointed Carl Carter as strategic adviser to spearhead its expansion into insurance.

The company, which has been dubbed the "eBay for travel", allows people to resell non-refundable holiday bookings. Its planned expansion into the insurance sector aims to allow insurers to recover value from trips cancelled as part of an insurance claim, similar to how motor insurers sell salvaged parts of written-off vehicles.

Transfer Travel plans to launch an API for travel insurers later this year which would automate the salvage and resale of bookings.

Carter has more than 30 years of experience in travel insurance, including 11 years as managing director of IMG Europe and three years as chief commercial officer of insurtech Blink Parametric. He is currently CEO of advisory firm CSC Global Partners.

“The insurance sector must embrace digital innovation to remain competitive and meet evolving consumer needs,” said Carter. “Transfer Travel's technology offers a compelling opportunity for travel insurers to reduce claim losses while improving customer satisfaction.”
