China says it opposes US Navy ships sailing through Taiwan Strait

BEIJING, Feb 12 (Reuters) - China said on Wednesday it had "full confidence and sufficient ability to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity", following the passage of two U.S. Navy ships through the sensitive Taiwan Strait this week.

"The U.S. should handle Taiwan-related issues prudently and properly, so as to not send the wrong signal to Taiwan separatist forces," Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office, told a regular press conference on Wednesday when asked about the ships' transit.
