Rwandan envoy alleges Congo plans 'large-scale' attack against it from Goma

ReutersFeb 7, 2025 10:00 AM

- Rwanda's U.N. ambassador on Friday rejected allegations it was responsible for instability in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and said that it had evidence that the neighbouring country itself was planning an "imminent, large-scale attack" against Rwanda.

"We categorically oppose the DRC's attempts to portray Rwanda as being responsible for its instability in the eastern DRC," James Ngango, ambassador of Rwanda to the United Nations in Geneva, told an emergency meeting of the Human Rights Council.

"What is clear, however, is the imminent threat the current situation poses to Rwanda. Following the fall of Goma, new evidence has come to light regarding an imminent, large-scale attack against Rwanda," he alleged, adding that there was a stockpile of weapons around the Goma airport.
