Corrects paragraph 1 to say Talos Energy is an oil and gas producer, not independent power producer

- Oil and gas producer Talos Energy TALO.N said on Monday it has named Shell SHEL.L executive Paul Goodfellow as its CEO, effective March 1.

Goodfellow will succeed Talos' founder and long-time CEO Tim Duncan, who stepped down in August after serving more than 12 years as the U.S. oil and gas firm's top boss.

On Feb. 2, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that Talos was likely to appoint Goodfellow as its next CEO.

Goodfellow has over 30 years of domestic and international experience in the oil and natural gas industry.

Talos was started by Tim Duncan in 2012, with the backing of private equity firms Apollo Global Management and Riverstone Holdings.

Since Duncan's departure, Talos weathered a spat with top shareholder Carlos Slim, whose investment firm holds a 24% stake in the company and briefly adopted a so-called poison pill to prevent the Mexican billionaire from trying to take control.
