Incoming Fed chair Warsh is 'strong believer' in Federal Reserve independence, BoE's Bailey says

- Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey said on Thursday he believed Kevin Warsh, U.S. President Donald Trump's choice to head the Federal Reserve, would seek to uphold the central bank's independence.

"I've known Kevin Warsh for a long time, because he was a governor of the Fed, actually, during the financial crisis period, and ... our paths have crossed a lot ever since. I think it's a good nomination," Bailey told lawmakers on parliament's Treasury Select Committee.

"From all I know - and I do know Kevin - I think he is a strong believer in central bank independence," he added.

Subject to approval by the U.S. Senate, Warsh will head the Federal Reserve when Jerome Powell's leadership term ends in May.
