MOSCOW, July 7 (Reuters) - The Russian rouble strengthened against the Chinese yuan and traded flat against the U.S. dollar on Monday as the central bank increased its net foreign currency sales by almost a third.
By 1500 GMT, the rouble RUB= was flat at 78.70 per U.S. dollar, according to LSEG data based on over-the-counter quotes. The Russian currency is up by about 45% against the dollar since the start of the year.
Against the Chinese yuan, the most traded foreign currency in Russia, the rouble strengthened by 1.1% to 10.84 on the Moscow Stock Exchange. The central bank makes its forex interventions in yuan.
The state's net forex sales, carried by the central bank, rose 31% to an equivalent of 9.76 billion roubles ($9.66 million) a day for the coming month. The central bank says it does not target the exchange rate.
