TOKYO, April 28 (Reuters) - Japan's top currency diplomat Atsushi Mimura on Monday denied a report in the Yomiuri newspaper that cited U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as saying during a bilateral meeting with Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato in Washington that a weak dollar and a strong yen are desirable.
Kato and Bessent had their first face-to-face talks on Thursday on the sidelines of IMF and World Bank meetings.
Mimura said no discussions regarding foreign exchange targets took place during the talks.
