MOSCOW, April 22 (Reuters) - The Russian rouble weakened slightly against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday in the absence of major developments in talks between Russia and the United States on the war in Ukraine.
At 0930 GMT, the rouble was down 0.37% at 81.30 against the U.S. dollar, according to LSEG data based on over-the-counter exchange rate quotes. Despite this, the rouble has risen by about 40% against the dollar so far this year.
"The dynamics of the rouble are currently largely determined by the news background regarding the progress of Russia-U.S. negotiations and the geopolitical situation," said Mikhail Vasiliev from Sovcombank.
Against the Chinese yuan, which is used by Russia's central bank for its foreign exchange interventions and is currently the most-traded foreign currency in Russia, the rouble remained flat at 11.12 on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
