ReutersJan 28, 2026 8:06 PM

- Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Wednesday said he does not believe the U.S. central bank has lost its independence and does not believe it will do so.

Powell at a press conference said the point of independence is to not have direct elected-official control over the setting monetary policy, and he is "strongly committed" to the Fed's independence, "and so are my colleagues."
