Germany's Merz says EU trade agreement with India has largely been negotiated

ROME, Jan 23 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Friday that the EU's trade agreement with India had largely been negotiated already and the EU Commission president was set to travel to India in the coming days to sign the deal.
"We want an ambitious European trade policy," Merz said in a joint news conference with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome after an intergovernmental summit.
"The agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur countries was an important breakthrough... further agreements are now to follow, first and foremost with India."
