TORONTO, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Canadian housing starts rose 5.6% in 2025, the fifth highest annual total on record, helped by higher-than-expected starts in December, data from the national housing agency showed on Friday.
The seasonally adjusted annualized rate of housing starts increased 11% to 282,439 units last month from a revised 254,625 units in November, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) said. Economists had expected starts to rise to 260,000.
