Fed's Goolsbee: worried about inflation, shutdown doesn't help

ReutersOct 2, 2025 1:16 AM

Oct 1 (Reuters) - Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President Austan Goolsbee on Wednesday said he is starting to get more concerned about inflation, which has run above the Fed's target for four years and recently has been ticking up, making him want to be "careful" about lowering interest rates.

With the government shutdown that began at midnight, key economic data including that on inflation from the Bureau of Labor Statistics will be delayed, making it the Fed's job "just that much harder," Goolsbee said on the Marketplace radio program with Kai Ryssdal.
