
TOKYO, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Japanese exports fell 0.1% year-on-year in August, down for a fourth consecutive month, data from the Ministry of Finance showed on Wednesday.
The result compared with a 1.9% decrease expected by economists in a Reuters poll.
Imports decreased 5.2% in August from a year earlier, versus a 4.2% decline expected by economists.
As a result, the trade balance stood at a deficit of 242.5 billion yen ($1.66 billion), compared with the forecast of a deficit of 513.6 billion yen.
