NEW YORK, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President Beth Hammack said Thursday that based on where the economy is right now, ongoing issues with inflation mean it’s not the time to cut the central bank’s interest rate target.
“I walk into every meeting with an open mind,” Hammack said in an interview with Yahoo Finance on the sidelines of the Kansas City Fed’s Jackson Hole, Wyo. research conference. “But with the data I have right now and with the information I have, if the meeting was tomorrow, I would not see a case for reducing interest rates,” Hammack said.
