Swiss government rules out tariff countermeasures despite strain from U.S. tariffs

BERLIN, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Switzerland's federal council said on Thursday it is not considering tariff countermeasures in response to newly imposed U.S. tariffs that affect nearly 60% of Swiss exports and place substantial strain on the country's export-oriented economy.

The government will focus on relief measures for Swiss businesses and continue negotiations with Washington to address the trade issues, it said in a statement.
