NEW YORK, July 17 (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said on Thursday he had not been approached by anyone in the Trump administration about potentially succeeding current Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
Donald Trump has been putting pressure on Powell to resign since he returned to the White House in January. Waller is widely considered to be in the running to be Fed leader amid ongoing frictions between the Trump administration and the Federal Reserve.
Asked at a gathering of the Money Marketeers of New York University whether he'd been sounded out about taking the Fed's top job, Waller said he had not, without offering any elaboration.
