April 21 (Reuters) - Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President Austan Goolsbee on Monday said the U.S. central bank needs to wait to see, but if the impact of tariffs doesn't spread beyond the 11% of the economy accounted for by imports, the effect could be relatively small.
"Unless it jumps out of just its own 11% lane, the impact of tariffs on the macroeconomy could potentially be modest," Goolsbee said in an interview on CNBC. "We don't know what the impact on the supply chain is going to be so I think we want to be a little more of a steady hand and try to figure out the through line before we're jumping to action."
