Fed's Bowman says tariffs' effect on economy 'unclear'
April 10 (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman on Thursday said the U.S. economy is strong, noted recent data showed inflation came down last month, and while she did acknowledge recent financial market volatility triggered by investor worries that U.S. President Donald Trump's trade policies will hurt the economy, declined to give any view on how tariffs will affect inflation or the labor market.
"As we're watching and waiting to see how the path for these policies continues to evolve, we'll understand what the economic effects are," Bowman said to questions from Senator Elizabeth Warren at a hearing on Bowman's nomination to be the Fed's vice chair of supervision. "It's unclear at this point since we don't know how the economic policies will be."
