- Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said on Thursday that a case for interest rate cuts later this year based on easing inflation still seems most likely to him, but noted that a cut this month is not likely.

Speaking at a Wall Street Journal event in New York, Waller said he doesn’t see a rate cut later this month, but he said the baseline case for two easings later this year remains in place. “I want to see what happens with the February inflation data. Want to see a little bit more with what happens with tariff policies” before deciding when to cut interest rates next, he said.
