KYIV, March 3 (Reuters) - Ukraine will reduce natural gas imports by almost 11% to 13.8 million cubic metres (mcm) on Monday, down from 15.4 mcm on Sunday and a 26 mcm high in mid-February, data provided by the operator of the state-run gas transmission system showed.
Gas import volumes increased almost tenfold in February after a series of Russian missile attacks targeted Ukraine's gas facilities.
The operator did not explain the reason for the drop in imports, but officials had earlier said that Ukraine might cut back on purchases as temperatures rose above freezing temperatures in February.
Ukraine uses gas mainly for cooking and heating homes.
A senior industry source told Reuters on last month that Ukraine could import up to 800 mcm of gas from Europe in February and March to compensate for lost production after Russian missile strikes on energy infrastructure.
