Adds details on term in paragraph 3, board background in paragraph 4
MEXICO CITY, Feb 1 (Reuters) - The Mexican government has nominated economist Jose Gabriel Cuadra to be a new member of the central bank's governing board, local media reported on Saturday, potentially marking President Claudia Sheinbaum's first pick to the interest rate-setting board.
Reuters was not immediately able to confirm the nomination.
Cuadra's reported nomination for an eight-year term on the monetary authority's policy-making board would still need to be confirmed by the Senate.
If confirmed, the bank's governing board would be back to full strength with five members, after it lost Irene Espinosa as a member at the end of last year after her term expired.
