WASHINGTON, Jan 14 (Reuters) - The impact of the incoming Trump administration's policies on the U.S. economy is an "active conversation" at the Federal Reserve and the central bank will respond if either its inflation or employment goals are pushed off course, Kansas City Fed president Jeff Schmid said on Tuesday.
Asked about the possible impact of higher tariffs on the economy, Schmid said that while the Fed was not trying to predict the outcome, "be assured that the Fed will act...if we see disruptions" to the stability of the job market or to the Fed's progress in maintaining inflation at an annual 2% rate.
