The U.S. Labor Department will release the report on new jobless benefits claims for the week ended Jan. 4 on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 8:30 a.m. EST (1330 GMT), a day earlier than ordinarily scheduled, a department spokesman said on Friday.
The U.S. government will be closed for a national day of mourning on Thursday, Jan. 9, to honor former President Jimmy Carter, who died Dec. 29 at age 100. The weekly report on unemployment insurance benefits claims is normally released each Thursday, except for government holidays and closures.
