Former Love Island star Olivia Bowen has told followers and fans that she has lost one of her twins, after only announcing her pregnancy before Christmas.
The reality star, who is married to Alex Bowen whom she met on the dating show, is still coming to terms with the devasting loss, with the help and support of those around her.
The couple have often expressed their desire to expand their family after welcoming their son Abel in 2022.
Olivia has previously bravely opened up about her struggles with postnatal depression following a traumatic and lengthy birth with Abel that required an episiotomy.
The expecting mum shared that they weren’t in a hurry to have another child, but whilst on holiday in Dubai in November, they chanced trying.
Just three weeks later, Olivia found out she was pregnant, and after booking an early scan at six weeks, they learned they were expecting twins, however the doctor did inform them at the time that one baby was ‘slightly bigger.’
However, just two weeks later, Olivia and Alex were hit with heartbreaking news that they had lost one of their twins during a routine scan.
In a post shared to social media, Olivia wrote: ‘I couldn’t wrap my head around the happiness & joy I felt for having one safe healthy baby – I know how fortunate we are for that – but at the exact same time feeling the excruciating pain & trauma of losing their twin.’
It’s like the two couldn’t co exist. But I want anyone who is going through this to know that it is ok to feel every single emotion you need to feel, as that’s how you will start to heal,’ she concluded.
Olivia also told The Sun: ‘As we looked at the screen, you could see that one baby was so much bigger than the other. And then the sonographer told us that the smaller baby had no heartbeat.’
‘I just didn’t believe it. I sat there thinking: “No, it’s going to come back.” And what made me more upset was seeing Alex’s face because he had been so positive.’
The embryo was naturally absorbed by her body, therefore, Olivia didn’t have to undergo surgery, but still she admitted: ‘Knowing that the baby was still inside me was hard, though I had a scan two days ago and they told me it’s just gone. I felt relieved, but then I felt immediately guilty.’
