Evanne Ní Chuilinn's political career is off to a flying start as she received her first Government position and she could not be prouder.
The mum-of-two shocked fans - and apparently the powers-that-be in RTÉ when she announced that she was hanging up her commentator mic in February to move into politics.
Now the move is official as she gets set to tackle her first Government job.
Evanne has been appointed to the post of Spokesperson in the Seanad for Arts, Media Sport and Communications.
As she announced the news she didn't delve much into the details of what her new position would entail but was clearly excited to be taking on the challenge.
What she has revealed is that her position will involve helping to reinforce and shape policy and communicating with the key people in these areas.
'I've just been given my first job in Government.'
'I'm delighted that Tánaiste @simonharris has appointed me Government Spokesperson in the Seanad for Arts, Media, Sport and Communications.
'I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute in such an important space. I look forward to engaging with key stakeholders and helping to shape policy in these vital sectors.
'Huge thanks to the Tánaiste for his confidence in me - I can't wait to get started.'
Her announcement comes as she recently touched on her reasons for getting into politics saying: 'I was in RTÉ for 21 years and obviously, I was a sports broadcaster and obviously, while I was there I was really vocal about certain things that are very important to me and important to lots of people like me and really all I've done here is take a new job to make that voice a bit louder and hopefully a bit more impactful and powerful so that's the very simple reason why I've gone on a new career track.
