With Love, Meghan is cringe TV but one episode in I can't stop watching her make bath salts from scratch

Just over a minute into the first episode of With Love, Meghan and she has already served up three cringy moments.

As we see our host striding towards a series of hives we are informed that 'the biggest thing is keeping a low tone... we talk in our bee voice.'

That she is with a professional beekeeper makes you wonder who she is speaking to, the crew, maybe? either way, the bees can't hear us through the screen, Meghan.

Next up she expresses her wonder at how much the hives have come on in the past year and gushes that 'to watch this grow is incredible,' while also admitting that she hadn't been to visit for a couple of months.

As she watches them go about their business, she quips that the newest members of the family are 'busy bees... I've got good vibes... good vibes, for good hives, (groans internally).

Meghan makes more missteps when she reveals she doesn't know how long bees live despite apparently keeping a hive for a year, just how invested is she in these bees, you have to wonder.

Her response to learning that her bees might only be around four to six weeks and getting over her fear of handling a bee rack is ever so characteristically Meghan.

'You know what it is, it's also that reminder to do something that scares you a little bit, I think that's part of it but I'm trying to stay in the calm of it, because it's beautiful to be this connected. (Spoiler alert: She also later sheepishly confesses to never really liking honey until recently so make of that what you will).

If you've made it this far into With Love then you're probably as invested as I am, involuntarily so, like I can't will my eyes away from the screen even if I'm having a hard time swallowing what's unfolding in front of me.

Next up is a lesson in guest etiquette and she tells us that one of her favourite things about having people over isn't spending time with them, or sharing a tasty meal... it's prepping the guest room.

'I think about the two places the guest experiences once they've gone into their room, what's on the side of bed for them that's their good morning and good night moment and what is in the bathroom for them so that they can have a beautiful soak, a nice bath for the end of the night.'

Yeah.... sorry Meghan but most of us are more concerned with the state of the skirting boards, or the hot water not coming on properly and it's hard to believe how the frantic deep cleaning that takes place before guests arrive could be anything other than panic driven, let alone someone's 'favourite' thing.

Her version of prepping for guests in case you're wondering involves making bath salts from scratch with lavender and arnica oil which we're told is great for soothing small bruises and just what is she expecting her guests to get up to?

As well as the salts she compiles what she calls 'teabags for the bath' or infusions to allow her guests to take a nice long soak that almost makes it obligatory to do so but what if you just want a shower?

The next portion of With Love, Meghan sees her enlist the help of her pal and makeup artist Daniel to cook up some spaghetti that she regularly makes for her children.

Five minutes in and poor Daniel is sporting a fresh cut and the arnica oil is making sense now.

As he gushes over her cooking and their long friendship he gets roped in again to carry out more manual labour, this time in the form of making candles from the leftover wax from her bees.

We are informed that this is the first time she has attempted to make candles... on a TV show, for a major streaming site, that's going to be watched by millions.

Surely given the pressure to perform, Meghan would have wanted to do a test run? Thankfully it seems she's a natural at candle-making and her attempt turns out so well that they ponder opening a candle shop together.

Episode one wraps up with a baking session which starts out with her saying 'Baking is not my thing but I will do it for my favourite people'

Why do it all? Just pick something up on the school run and actually allow your guests some downtime while they're in your home.

All in, With Love, Meghan feels maddeningly out of touch, and I'd have to think twice about popping around to hers if I was going to just be assigned chores rather than have a chat with a friend.

Conversely, that removed-from-reality factor might be what makes it so enjoyable to watch.

There are some genuine moments of friendship on show, at times it's utterly absorbing and I probably will tune in again.
